Put LS Heads on a SBC Block!

Bill Mitchell and World Products have been providing race quality block and cylinder head castings for years, but they may have outdone themselves with this one. When Mitchell was faced with a $570,000 bill to replace the worn out tooling to produce World’s small block chevy block, he decided to get his money’s worth. The new block not only features several structural, oiling and cooling improvements, it also is the first mass-produced small block casting that can accept more efficient LS cylinder heads.
LS heads won’t normally fit on a small block Chevy block because the water jackets are completely different. But World solved this problem by offering the block with standard SBC 9.025 deck height or LS standard 9.240-tall decks and water jacketing to work with LS heads. Mitchell says that with no other changes, stock LS heads are 20 to 25 horsepower better than stock 23 degree heads, and LS heads are finally becoming easier to find used. Plus, World’s cast iron block is approximately 75 pounds lighter than GM’s LSX cast iron block and still comes with priority oiling for the mains and the ability to run 55 mm camshafts.
