HOW TO BUY

Here are some tips and tidbits to help you purchase your World/Bill Mitchell Engine. A complete engine is a considerable investment so we’ll try to remove any worries about the process.

After you’ve picked your favorite engine, the first details to consider are fitment. We sell the engine from carb to pan. Not supplied are: water pump, fuel pump, starter and a neutrally balanced flexplate or flywheel. Remember that there is NO OIL or WATER in the engine. We drain it for shipping after the dyno runs. All our engines are internally balanced.

Take into consideration hood clearance, header fitment and crossmember clearance.

We build several taller than stock intakes. Tell the salesman your vehicle type and he’ll either know if your choice fits with no hood alterations or guide you to who does.

We can’t know every header application out there so if you’re buying a tall deck or raised port combination, check the header builders for their recommendations.

We use a limited number of oil pans and you must check the manufacturer to be sure it will or will not fit your chassis. If you need a different pan, it’s your responsibility to buy one. We do not swap oil pans. We have an “options program” but that is primarily for carbs, intakes, cams, distributors and custom machining. You can always sell the pan that comes with the package if it’s not your requirement.

Other things to consider are the brake booster and A/C equipment your car may have. A tall deck block engine for instance, will alter all these locations if you had a low deck previously. Plan carefully, ask questions and you won’t have a rude surprise.

Next to consider is the payment process. A $2000 deposit on credit card is required to start the build process. Your salesman will notify you when completion is near and a bank check for the balance is required. Freight charges are “Freight Collect”- you pay the driver. If you buy an engine that’s in stock, bank check payment in full is required before shipping. You may “hold” an engine in stock, with $2000 on credit card also.

A complete engine is shipped on a pallet and boxed. Most weigh between 600 and 800 pounds. You can pick it up from our shop if you’re local or we’ll ship it. You have to decide if you want it shipped to a terminal or to your house/shop. Tell the salesman if you require a lift gate delivery truck.

Finally, your engine arrives with complete instructions and recommendations-a warranty card too (except drag engines). Take a moment to fill it out AND MAIL IT within 45 days of the INVOICE date. Next, open a brew, kick back and READ all the instruction sheets before you put a wrench to the box.

Oh, and congratulations on buying a great powerhouse  from World/Bill Mitchell.
