The face of the MOTOWN II block has more clearance built in to
Accommodate all aftermarket belt and gear drives. The water jacket
design has the added benefit of extra cooling capacity of 152 fl. oz. per cylinder bank. Strength enhancing ribs were added to the rear of the block to help prevent torsional movement.

The oiling circuit has also been completely re-engineered to improve lubrication and redirect it to critical areas. This new design incorporates priority main oiling, lubricating the main bearings first, then the camshaft and lifters. Another benefit is that the distributor is now at the end of the oiling cycle, preventing leaks that were a common occurrence when the distributor was improperly fitted or the O-rings were damaged.

The MOTOWN II also features a new 5 o’clock location of the cam journal oiling holes, replacing the inadequate OE location originally at 6 o’clock. This was necessary as camshafts requiring high spring pressure would force the cam down, closing off the oiling hole in the OE design.

The hassle of accessing the oil restrictors by having to unbolt the transmission, converter or clutch and flywheel has been eliminated as they have been relocated to the middle of the lifter valley, equalizing oil distribution, and making access to them a lot easier.
