Lee Three-peats!

Three-peat for Jason Lee in the NMRA

Jason Lee may have came into the 2009 NMRA season as a feared competitor in the NMRA drag radial class, but I don’t think any competitors would have guessed how strong he would be once the season got started. From number one qualifiers to a three-peat in final rounds this season, he has proven to unstoppable so far and it doesn’t appear he has any intentions of looking back.

His season started in Bradenton, Florida where he took the familiar spot atop the qualifying ladder and then proceeded to dismantle the competition round by round. In round two he became the fastest drag radial racer in the history (as well as first in the 7s) in the NMRA by running 7.97@174mph. It was just the beginning as he marched into the final round where he faced off with Sonny Biggs but his performance was not enough to one-up Lee who laid down another low eight second pass to claim his victory.

The next stop in the tour for Jason was Atco, New Jersey where once again he was number one qualifier but his fellow racers threw everything at it they could to put the pressure on. Jason would once again find himself in the finals but up against newcomer Ken Ewer who had been on his game for the entire event. Lee prevailed once again with his bracket-like performance and it would give him his second win of the season.

The NMRA most recently headed to Milan, Michigan which is in Jason’s backyard and a very familiar venue to him. It would lead to some exciting racing once again with the cool temperatures and prime track conditions. In somewhat strange happenings, Lee only had one real tough round which came in round three versus Fred Bodnar, which led him into the finals against Matt Bell. Bell would outrun Lee but his redlight at the starting line handed Jason his third consecutive win of the season and a huge points lead in the standings. Can anyone stop Jason Lee? Well I guess we will have to wait and see what the next race at the Super Bowl in Joliet, Illinois.
